How Did In The Window Begin?

In The Window launched back in January 2023 during my time working at independent record shop - The Vinyl Whistle in Headingley. I met so many passionate and interesting music collectors, DJs, and artists while working there. It felt necessary to spread the word about the amazing people in the area who share a love for music, events, and supporting the local scene. Utilising the access I had to the shop, In The Window began with a series of weekly recordings on a Sunday daytime during my shift. 

It grew, with a great following and the loveliest support from friends. Without them, In The Window wouldn’t be what it is today - big big shout out to the Lick Quid Gold crew, Adam, and The Vinyl Whistle team for the love and support!

What We Do

In The Window is a Leeds-based platform centred around spotlighting DJs and artists in Leeds who are shaping the sound and spirit of the local scene. We do this by capturing mixes and hosting events in the city, releasing recordings from various Leeds venues and artists. Now, with an additional focus on community-led articles, we aim to expand on, and emphasise, the importance the scene has on people in our city.

Our Artists

We’ve been incredibly lucky to record with some of the most inspiring and talented artists in the Leeds music scene. Everyone who’s stepped behind the decks for In The Window brings something unique—and often, they’re making a bigger impact than they even realise.

Many of these artists aren’t just DJs; they’re community builders, event organisers, workshop facilitators, and key players on local radio. Whether you’ve danced at one of their nights, tuned into their shows, or crossed paths in the scene, chances are you’ve already noticed their impact. There’s honestly too much to squeeze into one post!

What’s Next for In The Window?

We began with a permanent location - recording weekly DJ sets in the window of The Vinyl Whistle. After I moved on from the shop, In The Window evolved, popping up at various venues and events across Leeds. These recordings were a lot of fun, but let’s be real - juggling event planning, recordings, and distribution was a lot (as I’m sure a lot of you know).

Now, we’re coming full circle and heading back to where it all began: The Vinyl Whistle, our beloved motherland. Returning to a familiar and low-stress setup means we can put our energy back into what matters most; regular uploads, more written content, and developing greater connections with the rest of the Leeds scene. This doesn’t mean events are out of the question - we’ll still be popping up here and there, just a little less frequently than before.
